The Cordwainer’s Footwear Student of the Year and recent graduate from The London College of Fashion, Meta Cunder, has collaborated on a series of creative looks for one of the stars of a hugely popular TV show designed to find the UK’s top drag queen.
Working closely with womens-wear designer Ben Mak, Meta created footwear for the TV show Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, currently being aired on BBC3 on Thursdays at 9pm.
Meta and Ben’s outfits are worn by the gorgeous Liverpool queen The Vivienne, who is a long-term fan of Ben Mak’s creations and even wore one of his dresses when she became the UK Drag Race Ambassador in 2016.
Meta and Ben were inspired by The Vivienne’s signature makeup looks and aimed to create show stopper pieces that drew attention
Meta used her experience with orthopaedic footwear techniques and materials to a ensure ultimate fit and comfort whilst not compromising any of the style needed to create impact with the ambitious and fantastical shoes.
“It felt amazing to collaborate with a womans-wear designer and a drag queen – both artists in their own right- to create these looks,” Meta explained.
She added: “Is is incredibly rewarding to see your shoes become a part of a bigger project …it just so happens that this one will be broadcast by the BBC! I was totally inspired by our drag muse The Vivienne as her personality is hilarious and over the top, yet her looks are glamorous and polished. ”
