In honour of its 120th Birthday celebrations later this month, the British Footwear Association has brought together some of Northamptonshire’s most respected manufacturers for a one off special ‘shoe-case’ celebrating the county’s rich shoe-making heritage.
Northamptonshire has long been regarded as the heart of the industry – the ‘Savile Row’ of shoes – and the show case of 11 of the county’s most renowned and revered manufacturers will kick start the BFA’s anniversary at the Northamptonshire Manufacturers’ dinner on Thursday, March 28th.
Church, Cheaney, Sanders & Sanders, NPS, Jeffery West, Dr Marten (Airwair), Loake, Trickers, Crockett & Jones, Barkers and Grenson will all feature in the show case which is due to be held in the library of Norhampton’s Delapre Abbey.
BFA’s Jayne West said: “Nestled in the glorious Northamptonshire countryside, the 900-year-old Delapre abbey will provide the perfect backdrop for a beautiful display of the highest craftmanship and finesse in shoemaking.
“Northampton is steeped in shoe heritage, but more importantly is still a globally recognised and celebrated cluster of design and make excellence, with exports to all corners of the globe – we are thrilled to be hosting this event alongside our anniversary dinner.”
BFA chairman Robert Perkins added: “The British Footwear Association is an integral part of the shoe industry and we are delighted to bring together some of the Northamptonshire’s finest and most talented craftsman for this unique display.
“The footwear industry has ancient origins but today combines influences from fashion, craftsmanship, technology and innovation.”
He added: “Seeing these amazing shoes displayed together for the first time is the perfect start to the BFA’s 120th anniversary celebrations. They show the depth of the Northamptonshire shoe making skills and the power of these famous brands, who export around the world.”
*The show case is only open to BFA members attending the Delapre 120th Anniversary dinner this year.
